Pedestrian flows / New York City

Where New Yorkers walk, and when

A block-by-block model from MIT's City Form Lab estimates pedestrian volume on all 315,577 sidewalk and crosswalk segments in the five boroughs at three peak hours: weekday and weekend AM peak (8–9 a.m.), midday peak (12:30–1:30 p.m.), and PM peak (5–6 p.m.). The model does not publish estimates for off-peak, evening, or overnight hours. Brighter and thicker lines carry more foot traffic.
